Eldest brother of our Great Grandfather

George was born c.1858 at Adelong NSW. The exact date of birth cannot be traced as it is not in any existing records. Although George and some of his brothers and sisters were undoubtedly born before their parents' marriage they are recorded as Phillips in the official NSW birth records.
George married Elizabeth Leonard (photo above) at Bombala on March 28, 1881. At that time his occupation was "labourer". Consent for the marriage was given by Eliza Kimber, mother of Elizabeth, as she was under the age of 21 years. Elizabeth's grandfather Patrick Leonard was an Irish political prisoner who had been sentenced to transportation for life in 1815 and arrived in Australia on the “Guildford” in April 1816 and was sent to Rooty Hill. Read more about the convicts connected to the family.
George was arrested for assault and robbery later in 1881.
"Thomas Ivill and George Phillips, charged with assaulting Oh Hing, and robbing him of 10s., have been arrested by Senior-sergeant Byrne and Constable Thompson, Bombala Police. Committed for trial at Cooma Sessions. Bail allowed."
Police Gazette (no. 326, Wednesday 7 September 1881, p. 324)
I can find no newspaper record of the trial or outcome, or an 1881 gaol admission for either of them. I did find a later gaol admission record for Thomas Ivill, however, and this charge is not recorded in his history of convictions. Presumably they got off.
George died on December 27, 1931 at "Burradale" Bombala, aged 73 years. He was buried in the Roman Catholic section of the Bombala cemetery.
The back of this photo says "Lill Phillips daughter of Elizabeth", so I assume this would be Eliza Mary Lillian Phillips.
