Bernice Phillips' Photo Album

The photos below are from Bern's photo album. Most of the photos probably date from the early 1920s. We gathered opinions from several sources to determine who is in the photos, namely John Phillips (son of George), Brenda Mahon (daughter of Tommy), Kerry Rogers (son of Thelma) and Joan Dwyer (daughter of Thelma). If you have other knowledge or opinions please email me, tell me the photo number, who you know in the photo, and why you think everyone else got it wrong.

L-R: Bern, Joel, George Jenkinson (Bern's fiancé), George (obscured) Wal, Thelma.

Photos 1 -3 were on the same page in the photo album, with photos 4 and 5 on the reverse side. There was also a wide shot of a beach that I do not recognise. It is likely that many of the photos on those pages in the album were taken at that beach.

No one has any idea who these people are.

This and the preceding 2 photos were on the same page in the photo album, which may indicate that they were taken at around the same place and time?

15 see caption in right hand cell Kerry thinks this is probably George (possibly Joel) and Cheeky. Joan says this is definitely George because she knows this photo. However George's son John says it is most likely Wal, and not his father at all.

Kerry Rogers thinks that the man in the middle is George, but John Phillips does not know who it so it's unlikely to be his father George.

Joan says it looks like Wal. Ladies unknown.

Bob Sneddon (son of Daisy Lutz) believes the young girl looks like his sister Pat, with Wal and Daisy Lutz.

Tommy.

Kerry and John both agree it is Claire, but Joan and (more importantly) Tommy and Claire's daughters Brenda and Joy both say it is definitely not her because "She had very deep wavy hair". Brenda and Joy also say that this man seems too old and serious to be their father, but that there is a strong likeness so it could possibly be him.

Photos 18 - 21 were on the same page in the album.

19 see caption in right hand cell Kerry and John both agree it is Claire (Tommy's wife) on the left, but Joan and (more importantly) Tommy and Claire's daughters Brenda and Joy both say it is definitely not her.

Tommy, unknown, Charles Edmund Phillips.

Kerry and John think the woman in the middle is Claire. Joan recognises Tommy and Charles but not Claire. Both Brenda and Joy say that it is definitely not Claire and also say that this man seems too old and serious to be their father, but that there is a strong likeness so it could possibly be him.

L-R: John is pretty sure it is Roy Beileiter (Full name Donald Roy Beileiter, a nephew of Charles Edmund Phillips, the youngest son of his sister Mary), Wal, Tommy

This and the following photo were on the same page in the photo album

L-R: Roy Beileiter, probably Ena Lutz1, Wal, Oscar Lutz, Ted Lutz1(sitting), Daisy Lutz, Tommy. John recognises Roy and Oscar, John, Kerry and Joan agree on all the others. 3 kids in front are probably the Lutz children1.

Unknown. This large photo was not in the photo album but was a large print mounted on a card, as though it had been framed at some point. No one has any idea who these people are but the photo is most likely from the Bombala River. It probably includes at least one Phillips or Turnbull or Kerrison and possibly some other local lads.

Bob Sneddon believes the boy on the bank closest to camera looks like his mother's brother Ted, and it could be the river next to the Nestle factory in Tagoolawah Queensland where Oscar Lutz worked for a time.
