Gretsch G9220 Bobtail resonator
I hate Chinese made stuff but I bought this in October 2018 because I know two people who own them and the amplified sound is good.
This one has a custom addition of a Gretsch Filter'Tron pickup and a blend control so that you can determine the relative level of the factory piezo pickup and the Gretsch electric guitar pickup. The Filtertron was supposedly made in the USA but I have not yet verified that.
The serial number starts with CAXR but all the info I can find online suggests that Chinese made Gretsches start with CY. However my one does say "handcrafted in China" just below the serial number so who knows.
According to an ad I saw for one recently the specs are as follows:
- Weight 5.2 lbs.
- Laminated mahogany resonator body with dual "F" holes
- Mahogany set neck with medium "V" shape
- Gretsch® Ampli-Sonic™ aluminum resonator cone
- Fishman® Nashville Resophonic pickup
- Padauk fretboard with pearloid dot inlays
- Spider bridge with ebony-tipped maple saddle
- Grover® Sta-Tite™ open-gear tuners with black buttons
- Aged white body and neck binding
- Bone nut
- 19 medium-jumbofrets
- 1.75" nut width
- 25" scale length
- 14.125" body width (at widest)
- 3.5" body depth (at deepest)
- 2-Color Sunburst semi-gloss finish
At the time I bought it the RRP in Australia was AU$1300 and street price was about AU$1000 so in that respect I got a good deal, especially with the extra pickup.
