2006 James Trussart Holey Steel DeVille
I bought this from a guy in Melbourne Australia in April 2009 and it was the best sounding electric guitar I have owned. You would think that a steel bodied, hollow guitar with holes all over it would sound thin, tinny and trashy, but It had a beautiful and incredibly clear crystalline sound with more sustain than anything I've ever had. When you played it with a bottleneck slide it just sang. It was like a Les Paul but with more sparkle or something. The pickups were spectacular. It also had the nicest big chunky frets on any guitar I've ever had.
One thing I didn't like about it was that the balance was a bit out. The neck and headstock were a bit too heavy for the body.
I sold it to a glam rock artist in Melbourne in October 2013.
Custom made by James Trussart it was at the time possibly the only one in Australia. Retail price from Trussart is now over US$6000 for a similar one, but these options don't seem to be available any more. The 'optional extras' include the Koa neck, Ebony fingerboard, and Aluminium binding and position markers.
