1996-97 Guild DV6 NT HG
I bought this in 2004 from a guy in Newcastle Australia when I needed something with a good pickup because I had started playing gigs again. The Ibanez that I had been using for a very short time just wasn't cutting it.
Made in Westerly, Rhode Island, it had mahogany back, sides and neck, rosewood fingerboard, Mother of Pearl Chesterfield inlay on the headstock, gold plated Grover tuners, and spruce top. The top had some very nice silking in the spruce, which you can see reasonably well in the lower photo at right. There is some suggestion that the "V" indicates vintage bracing, "NT" is natural top, "HG" is high gloss finish.
It would have been made in 1996 or 1997. The serial number checker on the Guild website is inconclusive because this serial number does not appear at all, but previous numbers appear as 1996 and subsequent numbers as 1997.
This was a really nice guitar, but I sold it when I bought my first Variax. I was doing a lot of material in various open tunings, and when I heard about the Variax being able to change tunings at the press of a button I just had to get one. Unfortunately I wasn't too flush with money at that time so I had to sell this Guild to pay for it. I did get my money back though. I sold it to a guy in Brisbane, who then re-sold it a few years later.
