1994 Crate Vintage Club 50 Head
I bought the head in the last days of 2008 from a guy in Surry Hills in Sydney. At the time I was actually looking for a Boogie but this was less than half the money and the reviews at Harmony Central were mostly exceptional, so I took a punt.
Then in March 2009 the same guy advertised two matching cabinets - a 2x12 and a 4x10. I actually wanted the 2x12 but some tool in Melbourne bought it through dodgy means (before the auction ended), so I ended up with the 4x10, for a measly $220. The model is Crate 410E. I sold the cab in early 2010 because I didn't have space for it and never used it.
Anyway it looked very cool & sounded great too. I also played this head through a 1x12 cabinet with a JBL in it.
Crate amps don't have a good reputation but I have to say that this all-tube design sounded damn fine to me. Also note that there is a black tolex version with the same model number, and from what I have read in one of the Harmony Central reviews that one is not all tube. The cream ones are definitely all tube - 4 x 12AX7s plus 4 x EL84/6BQ5 output tubes.
It looks ancient so I contacted Crate and they said that it was made in November 1994.
I also have a Mesa / Boogie V Twin pedal that provides tons of variety in my sound.
